We are halfway through quarter 1. That means we are halfway through the rhythm unit. During the week of October 9th students will be taking a test. Students can study for the written portion of the test at home. Kindergartners will be tested on keeping a steady beat, clapping the pattern of the words of a song (rhythm), and recognizing when there is a rest in a pattern of music (written). 1st through 5th graders need to know the names of different notes and how many beats each one gets. Below is the information (students should be able to recognize the different notes):

st grade: quarter note=1 beat, 2 eighth notes=1 beat, quarter rest=1 beat

nd gradequarter note=1 beat, 2 eighth notes=1 beat, quarter rest=1 beat, 4 sixteenth notes=1 beat, half note=2 beats

rd gradequarter note=1 beat, 1 eighth note=1/2 beat, quarter rest=1 beat, half note=2 beats, dotted half note=3 beats

th/5th gradequarter note=1 beat, 1 eighth note=1/2 beat, quarter rest=1 beat, half note=2 beats, dotted quarter note=1 1/2 beats, sixteenth note=1/4 beat
